PEMT Translations – Perfect for Clients on a Budget
Are you on a tight budget? We have the perfect solution for you: Post-editing Machine Translation (PEMT). It is quick, convenient, efficient, and above all, cost-effective. Essentially, we place your document into an online machine translation system and edit the translated copy to ensure it is readable and accurately translated. Please note: the post-edited machine translation cannot be put on par with a translation carried out by a human translator.

Translation of Technical Documents for a Client New to PEMT
Why HQ-Translators?
The client needed some technical documents translated but her budget was really tight. After bargaining for quite some time, an idea emerged in our minds: PEMT. We suggested it to her and she approved it, happy that we were able to come up with a customized solution for her low cost project.
Background
Our client is a bus and light truck manufacturer that forms part of a large industrial and commercial conglomerate. The company does business worldwide and has an important documentation that needs translation as part of their communication activities.
The Challenge
There were two important challenges to overcome:
- To provide a translation similar to that of a standard human translation in terms of accuracy, terminology, grammar, style and, above all, acceptable quality.
- To provide it in a software that does not support exportation of files for translation into another software.
How HQT Helped
Since it was the first time our end client was using this service, we first completed and sent her a small translation sample to give her a taste of the service she was requesting. Once we received her approval, one of the best machine translation tools around for the language pair in presence was used. A quality control process was also carried out to ensure the translation was consistent throughout and that the text was grammatically and stylistically error-free. Regarding the exportation issue we could not carry out, we contacted the client to provide us with a different file format to use, since there was no time left to learn the new software and use it efficiently to complete the project on time. However, we suggested doing it for future project purposes after completion of this urgent ongoing one.
The Result
The result for this project was as expected:
- The normal translation budget was cut by more than half
- A higher volume was completed as fast as 5 times the deadline needed for normal human translation
- Communication was achieved with the intended audience
Overall, the client was more than satisfied.
Translation of Some Scientific Catalogs for a Client Already Accustomed to PEMT
Why HQ-Translators?
HQ-Translators was this client’s choice for three reasons:
- Our company offers a PEMT service
- We have trained linguists in this field
- We boast a portfolio of projects already carried out in Post Editing Machine Translation.
Background
Customer is an award winning brand specialised in creating, planning and fulfilling prize solutions to enhance a brand’s presence in the marketplace. With thousands of prize solutions already addressed, he usually resorts to Post Editing Machine Translation to have his documents converted into other languages in order to communicate quickly and at a lower cost with his target audience.
The Challenge
As it is the case with any PEMT project, the challenge is always, paradoxically, to come up with the best quality translation possible at the lowest possible cost. In addition to being a challenge, it sounds in every aspect like a dilemma. Yet, we needed to deliver an output that meets the client’s expectations.
How HQT Helped
The challenges being huge and the standards set high, we provided the client with full post-editing, which involves a greater degree of human involvement to achieve a level of quality “close” to that of a manual translation.
The Result
We succeeded in providing the client with an output which was not the highest quality one could expect from normal translation, but which helped him deliver his message successfully, despite his tight budget.
